Engineering of Workholding Solution for a Turbine Casting for the Automotive Industry

Utilizing advanced solid modeling software along with precision calibrated digital scanning equipment, we assisted a customer in the automotive industry engineer a workholding solution for use in finish machining a turbine casting.
Careful part preparation is crucial to the accuracy of solid model data creation, so we cleaned the existing turbine and applied a Magnaflux spray to ensure part integrity. We utilized our high resolution optical scanning equipment to generate high accuracy measurements of the intricate contours, complex angles. Working with the customer-defined tolerances, we employed parametric modeling techniques to derive a watertight solid 3D model that would enable development of an effective workholding solution, as well as tool and die components for this multi-faceted part.
