Repair of Automotive Mold Tooling

B&J Specialty, Inc. we continually invest in new technology, improved quality systems, and employee training to ensure we can efficiently and effectively handle our customers' complex needs while offering competitive pricing. We repaired the mold shown here for a customer in the automotive industry, and it demonstrates the high level of skill and technology we bring to each project engagement.

Featuring dimensions of 18.0" in length, 15.0" in width, 15.0" in depth, and weighing 850 lbs, this mold is used to manufacture precision parts that measure 1.0" in width and 8.0" in length. In addition to disassembly and evaluation, a number of processes were required to restore it to its original geometry. We used a grinding process to remove the damaged areas and restore surfaces worn out of specification, and micro-welding techniques to perform the intricate build-up operations required to repair the minute-detailed features. Our EDM equipment was ideal for restoring the tunnel gates, and a number of additional processes, including CNC machining, handwork, sand blasting, polishing, and assembly restored the mold to like-new condition. Quality inspections revealed that the physical geometric characteristics were within ultra precise ± 0.0001" tolerances.
